Norman
I. Kagan, my beloved husband, was born in Queens New York on May 3,
1931 and died of non-smoker's lung cancer on May 20, 1994 in Houston
Texas. He earned a Bachelors degree in Chemistry and a Masters and a
Ph.D., in Psychology from New York University in New York City. For
more than 25 years he was a renowned professor at Michigan State
University in East Lansing, former president of Division 17
(Counseling Psychology) of the American Psychological Association,
pioneer and founder of Interpersonal Process Recall or IPR as this
method of communication and Norm himself became known through out
the world. He then retired from Michigan State University as
Distinguished Professor in Psychology and Psychiatry only to take on
the position of Chair at the College of Education, Counseling
Psychology program in the mid 1980's. He served as Department Chair
for about 6 years, and then continued his responsibilities as
Professor almost until his death. Norm was an admired teacher, a
popular lecturer who loved passionately his work. He was a devoted
father and step-father, a loyal friend and a caring and loving
husband. He loved Life! I am dedicated to keep his life work alive.
